I first met Dan when interviewing for an internship at ISA (International Secret Agents, a production and events company founded by Wong Fu Productions and Far East Movement). Honestly, I had no idea who he was, other than some guy who worked there, until someone told me about him afterwards.

Who’s DANakaDAN? Well, anything I could say about him is something you could look up on the internet. He is Productions Director at ISA. He was somewhat quiet but always friendly at the office. He raps. He is a Korean adoptee.

akaDan Screening

I don’t actually know that much about him. However, this past Saturday, I was graciously invited to attend the screening for aka Dan, a documentary chronicling Dan’s experience in Korea last summer, including reuniting with his birth family for the first time in nearly 30 years. So, I learned a bit more AND listened to him perform some of his songs off his latest album, Stuntman. Cool. Cool cool cool.

Throughout the screening, there was a mixture of laughter and sniffles. Admittedly, I did tear, but I was more blown away at the sheer luck and opportunities that Dan and the crew experienced during their trip. How incredible is it to hear that he not only found his birth parents but also discovered that he had a twin?

Following the two screenings were a reception and concert. Dan collaborated with several members of the Youtube community for his album, creating some really fun and meaningful tracks.

This March, ISAtv will release aka Dan on their Youtube channel in a series. Until then, best wishes on the college tour, Dan!
